The Mystery Deepens!
Chapters Six through Nine are available for download! As Ian gets further into the investigation of Karel's disappearance, a secondary investigation forces Victor to take on his undercover human persona sooner than expected. Meanwhile, Meryl causes problems and solves them in equal measure.
More arriving next week!
“So I want to spend the morning checking out a couple of places Karel might have gone, and then we'll go do the ol’ B&E in the afternoon. Our plans from there depend on what we learn today.” He cracked two eggs into the pan, separating them from becoming a single conjoined egg with the edge of a spatula. “Breakfast’ll be ready in… two minutes.”
“Do you ever take the weekends off, or are you a detective 24/7?” Victor blinked sleepily as he stirred. “My impression of you from Masa and Samir wasn’t that you were a workaholic.”
“My days off are when I don’t have a case. I’m hard to make plans with.” He tested the edges of the eggs. “Hence my, uh, intimately-sized friend group.”
“I thought that was because of your personality.”
Ian scoffed, but squinted at Victor with fondness. He was so incredibly tickled by how quickly Victor had adjusted to his particular brand of patter. Victor’s sarcasm was so deadpan, so softly spoken and oddly gentle-- so different than Meryl’s jocular profanity or Masa’s acid repartee-- it was like whipped cream. Ian wanted to tease him forever.
But alas, San-Lois wasn’t paying him to engage in stirring badinage with their property.
